Dear Riders, Volunteers, and Friends,
After 14 incredible years, it's time to say goodbye to the Okanagan Granfondo. Since that very first ride in 2011, more than 25,000 cyclists have joined us on the start line in Penticton, creating unforgettable moments on the roads of the South Okanagan. What started as a bold idea grew into a signature event that brought riders from across Canada and beyond to experience the challenge, camaraderie, and joy of cycling together.
This decision wasn't easy, but it feels like the right moment to shift gears. OG Events will be exploring new ways to bring cyclists together, including possible gravel ride and race opportunities right here in the Okanagan. As the cycling world evolves, we're excited to evolve with it.
None of this journey would have been possible without you—our riders, volunteers, sponsors, and the City of Penticton. You've been the heart of the Granfondo. Together, we've not only celebrated the love of cycling but also made a real difference: supporting youth cycling programs, boosting the local economy, and raising over $400,000 for the Desmoid Tumour Foundation of Canada through Athina's Ride in the past five years alone.
As we reflect on all we've shared, one thing is certain: we built something truly special together. Our participants have ranged from 2-year-olds in the Piccolofondo to a 91-year-old competitor in the Okanagan Granfondo. We've celebrated milestones such as weddings on the weekend and have seen many individuals achieve their personal goal of completing a Granfondo. These stories and achievements have enriched our community and highlighted the diverse and inclusive spirit of our events. The friendships, the finish line celebrations, the early morning starts, and the cheers from volunteers—these are memories we'll carry forward with pride and gratitude.
While the Granfondo has crossed its finish line, our mantra remains: Ride Hard. Smile Often. We hope you'll stay connected as we chart new paths in the years ahead.
